Mount Kailash is located in Tibet and has a height of approximately 6,638 meters. This is the highest in the world
Tarin is not exactly one of the highest mountains but interestingly it has not been climbed till date by any mountaineer. The reason for this is also very interesting. Actually, this mountain has great importance in Hindu and Buddhist religion. Hindus believe that ‘Lord Shiva’ is ‘worshiping’ sitting on its peak.
On the other hand, in Buddhism, this mountain is believed to be the home of the ‘Buddha of Happiness’. Therefore, every year a large number of people travel to this mountain and often go around it barefoot. This tradition has been established for thousands of years. Its one circuit is approximately 52 km long. In the past, a few mountaineers tried to climb it but could not succeed due to the steep and slippery climb.
In the recent past, in 2001, the Chinese government allowed a team from Spain to attempt it, but this was reversed due to protests by Hindus and Buddhists. Similarly, expert mountaineer Reinhold Messes, who is believed to be the first man to climb Mount Everest without supplemental oxygen, was offered to climb Mount Kailash by the Chinese government in the 80s but declined.
He said that this mountain is not so difficult to conquer nor is it very high but it is very important for people.
It is better to climb a more difficult mountain. On the other hand, the devotees claim that only a person completely free from sins can attain it. In such a case, he will not have to go on this difficult path full of snow, but he will take the form of a bird and fly to the top.
A geographical oddity is that the glaciers of this lone mountain give rise to the most important rivers of South India and the Far East. For example, our Indus River begins at Kailash (Glacier: Singhe Zanbu, meaning lion’s mouth.
That is why the name of Indus is Nim Shirdarya), Sutlej River also begins at Kailash, India’s Brahmaputra also begins at Kailash. The main tributary of the Ganges is also from Kailash, Me-Kang river is also from Kailash. So much happens from this one Kailash mountain, perhaps that is why it is considered so sacred.
Mountaineers all over the world know that Kailash is not yet submitted but they don’t summit it because of two issues. The first reason is that if Mount Kailash falls under shoes, then the sanctity cannot be maintained. The meaning of climbing the mountain is to satisfy the pride of a god. Mountaineers care about such things.
